Currently we are in Gulu, Uganda and have opened up two after-care homes for girl child soldiers, and girls rescued from child prostitution where girls receive love, mentoring, counseling, education, and life skills training. In 2006, Zion Project spent 6 months conducting research among child mothers in Northern Uganda identifying their needs, wants, and gaps in services. We've listened to their stories, counseled them, and prayed with them.

We've also started various projects including a photography empowerment project where girls are given cameras to give voice to their own life and experiences.

All our work is done in partnership with the girls we develop relationships with, their communities, and with local churches—their input and ownership guides our programs; for more information on the photography empowerment program or to book an exhibit at your church or venue email info@zionproject.org.

  • Counseling and mentoring
  • Spiritual discipleship
  • Child care while mothers are in school
  • Child school sponsorship

Girls Rescue Home

Our newest program, this is a ministry to Congolese refugee women  and their children who were sex-trafficked across the border to Uganda and have become prostitutes due to desperate circumstances. Many of them were child soldiers in Congo & left to escape. We rescue their daughters from sexual abuse & exploitation into a loving home and work with the mothers to help them get out of the sex industry. Visit: http://www.saritahartz.com (tag Congolese) to read their story

Trauma Counseling through the Arts
(with respect to Acholi ways of healing)

There is currently very little PTSD intensive counseling occurring in Northern Uganda. This will be a strong focus of our program.

  • Using Christian principles to guide the healing process

  • Utilizing the Arts (music, dance, drama, poetry) thereby
transcending culture, class and race and allowing free expression that leads to personal healing

of formerly abducted girls who have missed out on
    school
