Description

This missionary intern position is an exciting opportunity to live and work in Gulu, Uganda and love on the children in our Rescue Home. Your job would be to volunteer at the Rescue Home to help with tutoring, mentoring and development of our kids by developing materials/teachings which contribute to the emotional, spiritual, and educational development of our kids, and ensuring that there is an environment of love and the Kingdom in all that we do.

Overall Program Details

All Uganda-based positions are full time. Time commitment ranges from 6 months to a 1 year depending on availability. Interns will work 40-50 hours a week, 9-5 Monday- Friday. This is an unpaid internship and college credit is possible if you approve it with your university in advance. We encourage interns to fundraise for their internship both prior to and during their time in Uganda. Interns can live together in the Zion Project Volunteer House in Gulu, Uganda where the cost of rent will be covered. You will be responsible for all other costs incurred during the internship that include but are not limited to: travel costs, food and entertainment.

Responsibilities

  • To love on children and create an atmosphere of love and learning around them
  • To create a fun, educational learning environment for children
  • To introduce children to Jesus and encourage a personal relationship with Him
  • To teach children how to be Kingdom carriers---pray for the sick, preach, worship, etc
  • To prepare age-appropriate teaching/tutoring materials, games, and activities for children
  • To teach English and math skills to children
  • To help lead worship, devotions, purity workshops, and prayer times with children
  • To report on children's progress
  • Assist in Administrative tasks such as child protection reports, home licensure, etc
  • To report to Country Director/Rescue Home Manager on issues, concerns, achievements of children

Requirements

  • Mature, Christian faith
  • Love of Children & ability to relate well with children
  • Teaching Experience
  • Ability to make Learning Fun
  • Flexible, Adaptable
  • Patient
  • Positive, peaceful personality
  • Self-motivated- can organize and complete tasks with little direction
  • Cross-cultural communication (A knowledge of Swahili or French is a plus; but patience and a teachable spirit is preferred)
  • Computer literate
  • Commitment to Zion Project's mission
